Also faeper 'mulberry (fruit)' from fa 'tree'.

Thought to come from *eperyə (-y- preserved in dialectal epërj, and in eperjes ‘strawberry patch’), from *eperɣə, from Proto-Ugric *äppärĕ-kə (“strawberry”), from Proto-Uralic *äppɜ-rɜ-kɜ. Cognates include Western Mansi ӓпрӓ (äprä) (Lower Lozva), ǟpėrėχ (Pelym) and Southern Mansi äpriˈjėχ (Tavda) 'strawberry'. Also compared to Ket ээль (éèlʲ) 'lingonberry, bilberry, cranberry' and Yug эфыр (éfɨr) 'cranberry' (Proto-Yeniseian *epʰʌλ 'cranberry') by CHYD.

Also dâu ta (literally 'our mulberry'), dâu tằm (literally 'silkworm mulberry') for mulberry, and dâu tây (literally 'western mulberry') for strawberry.

Thanks to the popularity of strawberry as a flavor in foods and drinks, dâu is more frequently understood nowadays as "strawberry" than its original meaning, "mulberry". For example, vị dâu will most likely be "strawberry-flavored" rather than "mulberry-flavored"
