Most often 'Indian' in a sence '(historical) West India, American continent'.
'Guinea' in English and Dutch, Irish Gaelic (both from English). There are several explanations:
1. These animals was imported to England on board the so-called Guineamen (ships in a regular routes between the coast of Guinea, South America and Europe as part of the triangular trade)
2. Confusion of names Guinea (West Africa) and Guyana, Guyana, Guiana (South America) as the place of the supposed origin of the species
3. In three Quechua dialects, the name of animal evokes "guinea": cuzco =quwi, ayacucho =quwi, ~quyi, cochabamba =qowi (Gary John Parker (1964), English-Quechua dictionary: Cuzco, Ayacucho, Cochabamba, Cornell University, p. 64).
'Spain' in rare Dutch Spaanse rat 'Spanish rat'
